After four years, Mncameni is on the move again

Mncameni Pumakade contracted TB in his spine more than ten years ago and has been unable to walk since then.  Due to not having a wheelchair he had not left his house for over four years and had resigned himself to crawling to get around at home.

His situation was identified by one of the RAP’s Community Disability Workers - Nomabali - during her visit to Sihlabeni Village. After discussions with the Rural Ability Team, Nomabali delivered a rural wheelchair to Mncameni a few weeks later.

An overjoyed Mncameni is already making full use of his wheelchair – inside and outside of his home.  Nomabali is working with the family to modify the entrance to his home and flatten out some surfaces so that is easier for him to move around.

His renewed independence has enabled him to make a meaningful contribution to household chores - boosted his self-confidence and pride.  His family are currently very excited about taking him along to the next church service they attend.
