Ms Alex Msitshana, CBMSA board member, attended and presented at the World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf in July 2015. The congress covered a wide range of topics related to the deaf community and was an opportunity for networking and personal growth.

One of CBM South Africa’s board members, Ms Alex Msitshana, attended the World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey from 28 July to 1 August 2015.

The theme for the 2015 event was Strengthening Human Diversity. the congress aims to promote deaf people as a part of the global human diversity and to strengthen human diversity in the global deaf community. The presentations delivered over the five days covered a range of topics and included the following;
  • Human rights
  • Sign language and deaf culture
  • Education
  • Accessibility and technology
  • The situation in developing countries
  • Health
 The issue of inclusive education for the deaf child is still a critical issue in many circles, with many delegates expressing their passion and commitment to the cause.
Other sessions explored diversity and inclusion, the deaf community's needs during disasters, political participation of the deaf, writing excellent proposals to win donor funding, employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the deaf and a range of issues pertaining to youth, deafblind, HIV and Aids, senior citizens, and the LGBT community, among others.

The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), established in Rome, Italy in 1951, is one of the oldest global organisations of people with disabilities. It is an international non-governmental organisation, consisting of 133 national associations of deaf people, representing 70 million deaf people in five continents worldwide.
